Abstract:
Dengue hemorrhagic fever laboratory
information during January-December 1994 were analyzed. From 51,688
reported cases throughout Thailand, 5,471 sera or blood samples of the
suspected cases were transported to Virus Research Institute and Regional
Medical Science Centres. Department of Medical Sciences for laboratory
determination by HI and antibody capture ELISA technique. It was found
that 3,742 cases(68.4%) were confirmed as Dengue virus infection. Incidence
of infection was high during May to October and the highest peak was
in June (776 cases). Positive results were in the specimens from North-East,
North, Central and South regions respectively Mostly the affected cases
were children in the age group 5-14 years. As WHO criteria, 3,510 dengue
antibody responses were interpreted. 15% were evaluated as primary infection
and 84.9% were secondary infection. Comparision of the clinical prediagnosis
in the requested forms and laboratory results, Dengue infection was
confirmed in 73.0% and 56.4% positive laboratory results in fever of
unknown origin(FUO) groups. |
